Details of the DPC season. Majors will be held in March and June
On the night of December 31 to January 1, Valve made a real New Year's gift for Dota 2 fans and presented the upcoming DPC season's details. It will include 2 regional leagues, divided into 6 regions, and 2 Majors, where participants from each league will get together. And the final of the season will be the August The International in Stockholm.
As Valve noted in their announcement, the last, not completed, season’s results will be canceled. So the current one will start from the very beginning. It was made so due to significant changes in most of the teams.
Details of each league:
All leagues will be divided into 6 regions. The first season of the DPC League starts on January 18 and runs until February 28. The only exception was made for China: there the competition will end on March 14. It is related to the Chinese New Year. The second season of the DPC league will run from April 13 to May 25.
Each region will have 2 divisions that will have 8 teams. Valve will personally invite the 4 strongest teams from each region to the first divisions, while the rest will be selected through a series of qualifications. The first of them begin very soon.
The movement of teams through the season will look like this:
The two weakest teams from the first division will fall into the second one, whose two best teams will take their places.
In turn, the two weakest teams from the second division will leave the league for good, and their places will be played in the qualifiers.
Each region has its own tournament operator, which will be responsible for the leagues' organization:
- China: Perfect World
- CIS: ESL
- Europe: Dreamhack
- Southeast Asia: PGL
- North America: BTS
- South America: Dota Pit

Details about the Majors:
The final stage of each season of regional leagues will be the Major tournament. It is to participate in it the teams will compete in the leagues. The first major will take place from March 25 to April 4, and the second — from June 2 to 13.
Slots from regional leagues will be distributed as follows:
- China - 4 slots
- Europe - 4 slots
- CIS - 3 slots
- Southeast Asia - 3 slots
- North America - 2 slots
- South America - 2 slots
