Dota 2 took the second place in the top of Esports games’ prize amounts in 2020
The portal for collecting statistics Esports Earnings has published a list of Esports games by the amounts of prize money in 2020. For the second year in a row, Dota 2 is in second place.
The absence of The International in 2020 had a big impact on the total prize pool for the whole year. Compared to last year, the difference was almost $40 million. Also, there were 77 fewer tournaments in 2020: the previous year there were 223, and this year - 146. In 2020, the most considerable prize money was at DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major — one million dollars.
Interestingly, another Esports game from Valve, CS:GO, lost only $6 million in prize money from the previous year, and more impressive prize cuts in other games put it to the top of the list.
