How much did teams earn in 2020?

    Dota 2
    Published at: 2020-12-21 11:53:10

One of the last tournaments of this year ended yesterday, which means that you can see how successful the Esports teams were this year. Unlike all previous years, in 2020, the prize money for all teams is much more modest. This all is due to the absence of The International. But even without the main tournament of the year, the teams were able to win an impressive amount of prize money.

When calculating statistics, we didn't take into account charity tournaments since the prize money from their participation was transferred to charity funds and not to the teams.

The leader of this list, with a considerable margin over the others, is Team Secret. From the start of 2020 to the end, the team showed an incredible play level, which provided it with a lot of prize money. Team Secret has 8 champion titles, including DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major and Omega League. For winning only these two tournaments, the team received $500,000!

Unexpectedly, Nigma is on the second line. At the beginning of the year, the team earned huge prizes for WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020 and WePlay! Dota 2 Tug of War: Mad Moon, which brought about $200,000 in total. But the team didn't even think to relax and, throughout the rest of the year, performed at the proper level.

The third place was taken by the PSG.LGD team. It is worth noting that the prize money calculation was carried out specifically for the PSG.LGD tag. The fact that the main roster left the team in September and the players from EHOME came to replace it didn't affect the calculations. Of course, the majority of the prize money was earned by the previous roster. So, for victories in the first and second seasons of the China Dota2 Professional League, the team earned more than $220,000 in total. But it is worth noting that the updated PSG.LGD is also performing well and earning prize money.

Virtus Pro is in fourth place. The situation is identical with the previous place: we calculated the prize money only for the Virtus Pro tag. The previous roster of the team earned almost as much in 10 months as the new one. In November, the organization took a severe step and changed VP.Prodigy to the Virtus Pro tag and disbanded the old roster. In just 2 months, the team earned more than $200,000, the main part of which came from the Epic League's victory.

The next three teams, Liquid, OG and Alliance , can be called the mid-range teams of 2020. At one moment, each of them showed an incredible performance, just like each had a moment of decline. Therefore, it so happened that they earned almost equal amounts of the prize money in 2020.

Evil Geniuses is in eighth place. Many won't understand how it happened, but the team became vice-champion of DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major in January, winning $160,000. Then there was a row of average performances at local tournaments for the American region and a long break from the competitive scene. And this was still enough to be on the 8th line.

A step away from the 8th place, several teams at once with prize money about $200,000. They are  Natus Vincere, Vikin.gg, Vici Gaming and Invictus Gaming
